Where my spirit has taken me...

My friend Steve has kindly kept BeachKat pages alive for several years while I’ve been running to and fro on the beach and through the woods. I’ve had the best intentions to write a short bio, but retirement is just as busy as others report. It’s a different sort of busy, but I love the liberation of knowing that things like housekeeping can wait until tomorrow or the next day or the next. The orderly life is no longer necessary to maintain schedules or deadlines. Throw caution to the windy coast.

Childhood in southern Oregon was safe and innocent in the 1950’s and 60’s. I loved summertime. My parents worked hard to take the family on a two week vacation each year. Our tent camping advanced to a 16 foot Shasta trailer, and exploration of all the parks and attractions on the west coast, British Columbia and east to Yellowstone. I can still smell the pine trees; feel the warm sun and remember the days spent swimming in the cool rivers and lakes.

A retail merchandising career was tossed in the corner in 1969 when my friend and I drank a couple of beers and went out to the Portland airport to watch planes take off and land. We spotted a sign “Stewardess Applications” and breezed right through the initial interview…..the only young women out of sixteen selected! My amazing twenty three year career with a domestic airline supported a resume of experiences that qualified me for other jobs following early retirement. I dabbled in the garden nursery industry, Starbucks, Ikea, long term care marketing, and yes, retail merchandising.

When my sweet husband took early retirement in 2002, we were able to fulfill the dream of living on the Oregon coast. I came back and recaptured the spirit that never left this beautiful spot in the world. The years spent in bustling cities and boisterous crowds were enough to make me realize that nature and the ocean’s negative ions enrich one’s spirituality and health. I wish everyone the blessing of finding that special place.
